WHO ARE WE?
ignite the flame
As a new doula, our Founder faced many obstacles, many of them specific to being a woman of color navigating a system that was built without people like her in mind. She needed support to do the work of supporting black birthing women but didn’t have a village to turn to. That need ignited the flame that is now Blaq Birth Circle. |
be Vulnerable without fear
It started out as an informal group chat that turned to in person meet ups. It became a space that other black birthworkers could unpack joyous and traumatic birth stories; a space to ask questions and be vulnerable with each other. It gave women that had been labeled “strong” and “resilient” an opportunity to let guards down without fear of harm.
Take up space
Even now, Blaq Birth Circle is so much more than its beginnings. With our unapologetically black attitude, we encourage each other to take up space, be loud, and advocate for themselves and our community. By uplifting the village, we revive the world.
